Changed traffic conditions are in place this week for the Hexham Straight Widening project including;

• Lane closures inbound and outbound from Newcastle on Maitland Road between Sparke Street and Old Maitland Road, Sandgate on Monday 29 April. 
• A lane closure outbound from Newcastle on Maitland Road between Old Maitland Road, Hexham and the Hexham bridge on Tuesday 30 April.
• Lane closure inbound to Newcastle on Maitland Road prior to the M1 on ramp to Old Maitland Road, Hexham and a temporary closure of the U-turn under Hexham on Wednesday 1 May. 
•  Lane closures inbound on Maitland Road between Old Maitland Road at Hexham and Merchant Street on Wednesday 1 May. 

A temporary speed of 60km/h will remain in place through the project work zone during ongoing day work, and a reduction to 40km/h during night works. 

Significant restrictions for over size and over mass vehicles with ground contact wider than 4.2m will be in place during the work. Permit holders are required to contact the project team on 1800 515 141 to plan times and movements through or around the works.

New England Highway John Renshaw Drive offramp exit westbound only will be closed.

All over sixe over mass (OSOM) vehicles intending to travel through the site are required to call ahead on 0423 323 946 (or 0455 465 321) at least 30 minutes before reaching the site.

When approaching the work site, they are requested to stop in the designated holding bay until such time the site can be made safe to travel through.

Once stopped, call the site on UHF Channel 45 or call 0423 323 946 (or 0455 465 321) to confirm arrangements for travelling through the work area.

OSOM vehicles greater than the restricted width should expect short delays during this work.

Westbound motorists will be directed to continue on the New England Highway to Weakleys Drive, where they can turn left and return along the M1 Pacific Motorway.
