Changed traffic conditions for night works will be in place from Sunday 21 July to Thursday 25 July, weather permitting.

A temporary speed of 60km/h will remain in place through the project work zone during ongoing day work, and a reduction to 40km/h during night work.

Over Size Over Mass operators with a ground contact wider than 3.2m and/or overall width greater than 4.5m are advised to contact the project team at least one day ahead of movement on 1800 515 141. Significant delays will occur if no contact is made. Please note vehicles travelling under a Permit must not travel off the approved route listed in the permit unless an updated permit is obtained from the NHVR.

Planned work: 

• Lane closures and a reduced speed of 40km/h either side of Ironbark Creek bridge on the inbound and outbound lanes
• Lane closure and a reduced speed of 40kh/h between Fenwick to Old Maitland Road on the outbound lane
• Lane closures and a reduced speed of 40km/h at the intersection of Newcastle Inner City Bypass and Maitland Road on Wednesday 24 July and Thursday 25 July.

•  Lenaghans Drive northbound and southbound traffic stoppages and speed reduction to 40km
•  Pacific Highway northbound and southbound lane closures and speed reduction to 40km, with intermittent stoppages from 7pm to 5am, daily
•  M1 Pacific Motorway northbound and southbound lane closures and speed reduction to 40km from 7pm to 5am, daily
• New England Highway westbound John Renshaw Drive off ramp closure and detour from 7pm to 5am, on the nights of, Tuesday 23 July, Wednesday 24 July and Friday 26 July. During this time, all traffic will be detoured via Weakleys Drive, please allow up to 5 minutes extra travel time.
• New England Highway eastbound including Tarro exit ramp intermittent stoppages and westbound lane closures with intermittent stoppages from 7pm to 5am, daily

Essential maintenance work will be undertaken on the Tarro Bridge (over rail) on the New England Highway from 3am Saturday 3 August to 5am Tuesday 6 August.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction for the duration of the work.

Motorists should allow additional travel time.

Vehicles exceeding 3.5 metres in width and/or 69 tonnes will be diverted as they are not permitted to travel over the bridge.

Vehicles travelling under a permit must not travel off the approved route/s listed in their permit unless an updated permit is obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR).

Detour arrangements for class 1 (oversize/overmass) and any other vehicles 69 tonnes are via Maitland Road, Newcastle Inner City Bypass, Newcastle Road, and Hunter Expressway. OSOM vehicles up to 6 metres wide, 35 metres long and 5.2 metres high will be able to travel via the detour.

Class 1 OSOM combinations over these dimensions cannot use this detour due to restrictions along the route.

Traffic controllers will be on site to direct motorists. Motorists are advised to allow approximately 5 minutes of additional travel time.
